Nicklaus Children’s offers scholarships for Miami-Dade College nursing students

Nicklaus Children’s is collaborating with Miami-Dade College (MDC) to implement a scholarship program for students accepted into the MDC Associate of Nursing program.

The Nurse Scholars Program, sponsored by Nicklaus Children’s Health System, is administered by Edcor, a third-party service, and offers scholarships of up to $10,000.

The Nurse Scholars program includes four semesters of didactic and clinical experiences as a student and student nurse trainee (SNIP). The SNIP is a day job opportunity for academic nurses to hire as health care aides to better understand the field of pediatric nursing. Pediatric experiences and internships will be completed at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital and 10 participants will be accepted during each fall and spring semester.

“Nurses are essential to our mission to provide exceptional care to the children and families we serve,” said Shannon Odell, vice president and chief nursing officer of Nicklaus Children. “We are honored to help future nursing colleagues further their education and prepare for careers in this incredible profession.

Students accepted into the Nicklaus Children’s Nurse Scholars Program receive a tuition scholarship of up to $10,000, with payment made directly to the school. Beneficiaries are responsible for any additional fees applied by the school.

Upon completion of the program, eligible graduates may be offered employment in the Horizon Nurse Residency Program at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital to fulfill a two-year agreement with the organization. The graduate nurse is required to complete an RN program at BSN after completing the ASN program if hired as a Horizon RN. Nicklaus Children’s Hospital will participate in the MDC on-site orientation on November 9 to promote the ASN Nursing Scholar program to students accepted into their nursing program.
