After the meeting, Chhatisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel revealed that the ongoing five state assembly elections were discussed at the meeting.

“I had a meeting with KC Venugopal. Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Ashok Gehlot today. A detailed discussion of Assembly elections in the five states was discussed. The strategy regarding the results to be announced on March 10 was also discussed,” Baghel said as quoted by ANI news agency.

Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot also made a statement on what was discussed during the meeting.

“A detailed discussion of the polls in 5 states and the way forward was made. The current government, the Constitution and democracy are under threat. Congress is the only party Oppn today, people have expectations. It is our duty to see what we can bring to the party,” he informed.

The discussion came days after the Rajasthan government announced its budget and reverted to the old pension scheme (OPS). Congress is also urging other states to restore OPS.

Gehlot said a discussion regarding the pension plan took place at the meeting. “Our decision on the old pension plan was carefully considered, it was made for humanitarian reasons. If a government employee is not secure after retirement, what will they save? They will continue to wondering about the pension. What job is he going to do? he asked.

He also said that “confidence regarding post-retirement should be instilled in them. Everyone was discouraged by the decision (New Pension Scheme). You cannot understand the feeling of people when they met me after we made the decision (to implement the old pension plan).

The decision of the government of Rajasthan led by Gehlot to return to the OPS has also become an electoral issue. Last week, Priyanka Gandhi hailed the Rajasthan government’s decision.

“The Congress Government of Rajasthan has taken a great decision for the benefit of government employees by implementing the old pension scheme. The Congress party is entirely dedicated to the interests of government employees. We have worked in the public interest, we will continue to work,” she wrote on Twitter.
