User-friendly Hospital Cost Reporting Data and Qualified Nursing Facility Cost Reporting Data for 2014-2018 – Now Available!


On October 29, 2021, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) released an annual update of the Hospital Cost Report (PUF) public-use file and released the PUF cost report for the first time. skilled nursing facilities (SNF). These PUFs contain data for 2014-2018.

These products were developed using the Health Care Cost Reporting Information System (HCRIS) and provide stakeholders with a set of variables organized in a user-friendly format (for example, more descriptive variable names ). Each PUF is organized at the hospital or facility level and includes selected metrics such as hospital or facility characteristics, usage metrics, costs, and charges by cost center ( in total and for Medicare), Medicare claims data, and financial statement data.
